Free

Every newborn is a slave,
each heart-beaten into shape,
tiny minds moulded an’ blinded from the truth.
By the time we’re half alive,
to our master’s great delight,
we’ve pissed away the greatest gift of youth.
Running nowhere on the mill,
chasing dreams we can’t fulfill,
locked in chains and bonds we cannot see or feel.
Lied to each and every day,
most of us fadin’ out to grey,
sometimes a startled voice raises a squeal.

“They” keep restating, on free TeeVee,
how fine ‘n’ dandy is this democracy.
Repeat after me, repeat after me:
You are so

Free: To follow a million rules.
Free: Brainwash your kids in school.
Free: To vote blue or red.
Free: We’re all wooden spoon-fed.
Free.

You’re free to demonstrate,
(with permission from the State),
feel the night stick sting all for your protection.
Cameras fill the once blue skies,
watchin’ you a million eyes,
know your name, gotcha number rebel subjection.

PRE-CHORUS

CHORUS

YOU are the subject in subjection.
The reason why “they” need protection.

PRE-CHORUS

CHORUS

each heartbeat told how to behave,
minds moulded like so much plasticine.
